Biografía

Segundo de Chomón (October 16, 1871 - August 24, 1955) was a Spanish filmmaker and pioneer of cinematography, best known for his groundbreaking work in the early days of cinema. Born in Barcelona, Spain, De Chomón began his career as an assistant to Segundo Guillén-Canales, a well-known French magician who was also involved in the burgeoning film industry.

De Chomón's first notable works were created during his tenure at Pathé Frères Studios in Paris, where he made short films using innovative techniques such as multiple exposures and stop-motion animation. One of his most famous creations is "The Haunted Castle," a 1908 short film that features elaborate special effects and is considered one of the earliest examples of a horror genre film.

In 1910, De Chomón moved to Hollywood and began working for Thomas Edison's film company, where he continued to innovate and experiment with film techniques. Some of his most notable works during this period include "The Hypnotist" (1913) and "The Lost City" (1915), both of which showcased De Chomón's talent for creating visually stunning films.

De Chomón's contributions to the film industry were recognized in 2018 when he was posthumously awarded a Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in the category of Motion Pictures - Special Class. Despite his many accomplishments, De Chomón remains relatively unknown compared to some of his contemporaries, but his influence on early cinema is undeniable.

De Chomón died on August 24, 1955, at the age of 83 in Los Angeles. He left behind a rich legacy that continues to inspire filmmakers today.
